NESTLINGS

Napping women were the subject of my paintings in the early 70's.  They were often wrapped in quilts, “quiltlings,” which in the mid 70's morphed into “NESTLINGS,” with stream of conscious dreams entwined in the nests.

These women, representative of my awakening generation, were asleep with their potential.  They became women with wings on their heads in the late 70's.  They were poised for the flight of self realization.  By 1984 I had discovered real women who were living their dreams.  To me this described a revolutionary beauty of the spirit.  Interpretative portraits became my exploration of this new form of the feminine ideal.  The 100 women of the series are distinctive beauties because they exercise their best self, not necessarily because they are simply attractive.
